In Search of Korea's Justin Bieber

This kid is just oh-so charming. It's the can-make-girls-cry kind of charm. I've been going through this guy's songs over and over that I am getting scared my appetite has not yet worn down. I've been stoked to a number of songs before, so at the rate at which I have so far gone with Justin Bieber's "Baby", I should have freakin' stopped.

It then made me wonder if Korea has created the Justin Bieber kind of package in its music industry? He should do just fine in letting me join the whole Korean pop fiasco. Haha.

My Own Hallyu Fever

Talk about the Hallyu fever, I was once a sucker for Korean dramas in the Philippines, and they have been the dubbed versions to my native language. As to Korean pop music, it was not that expansive two years ago in my country, so there was really no chance for me to get hooked to it. I guess I had other priorities, then. Teehee.

I am now here in South Korea, in a place where Asian teenagers would probably die to be in just to experience the real Hallyu craze, yet there seems to be little time (and interest) for me to get it on with them. I guess I still have other priorities in life. Haha.

Jason Mraz in Seoul

Jason Mraz is one great artist whom I truly, truly admire— someone I am definitely willing to trade decent lunches for a week or two, just so I can finally buy a ticket to his concert. The guy already had two concerts back in the Philippines which I knew about, though I frustratingly did not get the chance to catch both. The first was due to lack of the moolah, and the second was due to lack of time.

I finally was able to muster both when I got here in Seoul, and finally had one of the most meaningful two hours of my life. Woohoo.

The Financial Crisis Explained

I am just as confused as everybody else. Don’t count on me as more-knowing for having technically finished my Business Economics degree because there are far better people who have the logic and wit to understand the matter than I ever will. And so I do what I do best—googling, in my search for a topic for my monthly presentation at work, and stumbled upon this video that has a witty take on what the financial crisis really is.

It’s simply about daddies finding it hard to tell mommies that they don’t look good.

Seminar on Korean Cinema's History

I attended a free seminar sponsored by the Korea Foundation Cultural Center, which is the sixth of the seven-lecture series intended for foreigners in Korea. It is designed to provide deeper insights into Korean culture and history. I personally learned about the seminar from a website that I would occasionally visit, whenever I look for something new to do here. The Korea4Expats site has been so informational for me, even giving me updates on possible personal ventures here.

Travel to the Philippines!

I left the office early on a Friday night today (which should actually be a regular habit for me, don’t you think?) and craved for some leisurely walk in Myeong-dong. Myeong-dong as a fashion district, houses top Korean and international brand names alike, so it really won’t be surprising to see foreigners here as well. They really have big, beautiful stores, and international brands like Nike and Zara shout their names in the crowded streets like these:

2008 Asian Song Festival

This night marked the 2008 Asian Song Festival, held at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul. After the Koreanovela tour that CJ and I went to in the morning, this is where we ended the day. I found out about the said concert from a Filipino newsletter distributed weekly in Hyehwa Catholic Church, where I hear the Sunday mass. It is a free concert that I just had to register myself into at the Philippine embassy a week before the actual event.

On Ellen

I am going to end this week as a couchpotato. Again.

I caught on the Ellen DeGeneres Show today, and only Ellen could do this. She’s amusingly crazy at times. Hitting the head with a bottle? The beauty queen sure looked scared when she caught on Ellen with the bottle at hand. Haha. That’s far worse than a peppermint spray on the Puerto Rican title holder, who was allegedly sabotaged in the beauty contest, but nevertheless got the crown despite the itching brought about by the peppermint put in her evening gown.

Charlie Bit Me, And It Hurt!

With nothing much to do and to expect in my life still (hohum), I stumbled upon this very,very, as in very funny video. I LOVE KIDS, I swear! They’re the most adorable living creature on earth and I could just be so happy with the thought that I am actually capable of bringing forth one! Hahaha. Lesson: It’s never really been good to put a finger on one’s brother. Even the accent won’t help. And yes, it hurts when somebody bites your finger. (Click on the title above.)
