Ear-loves!

I have developed this special spending vice on fancy earrings since I got here in South Korea, and it’s a spending predicament I find so hard to resist in a country that has long been branded as fashion freaks. Now I don’t know why I decided to throw my personal efforts to looking good straight up to my ears, but I must say that jewelries really do a great job in accentuating. Earrings are probably the only jewelry piece that anyone will see me wearing aside from a watch on my left wrist. Watches are already part of my wardrobe staples, the kind that would make feel me instantly uncomfortable not wearing. I won’t be surprised if in a matter of a while, I’ll treat earrings as such.

Korean earrings can really go bold and daring with its myriad of designs here. My, I see them everywhere and they transform me to this behemoth of an obsessive-compulsive buyer. I prefer studs than dangling earrings. I just think that pearls, crystals, and gemstones as studs look more posh, as compared to the foxy and playful effects of a dangling pair of earrings. I still own a few dangling earrings, though.

Now I went out with my CCAP friends this one afternoon and decided to give them earrings as gifts, since my two middle school student buddies even came from as far as Gangwon-do just to see me and have a tour around Seoul. I also wanted to give something back to them since they let me stay at their house in the province.

We had an early dinner at Mr. Pizza (pretty much like the famous Pizza Hut, except that it has a special leaning towards women) and presented to them my gifts, only to found out that the girls didn’t want to accept them because they have no piercing as of yet. They went on explaining that it is because their mother won’t allow them to wear earrings until they reach high school, so as not to encourage excessive physical efforts to becoming beautiful. The school also does not allow students to have piercings and wear earrings in their elementary and middle school years.

Now why does this story of “repression” (haha) suddenly make me understand more why some Korean women dress and accessorize the way that they currently do?

First December Holiday Away from Home

I check the last post that I wrote in here, and I thank myself that I have actually put a couple of updates on what I have been doing in this supposedly perkiest month of the year. It’s so ironic to think that it’s that time of the year in the office when the workload is not that many-- for anyone to do some extra things, yet I have never really mustered myself in filling this blog with updates. I mean, come on! It is December. It’s the time of the year when people get a bit lax with the serious stuffs that have pre-occupied them the whole year long-- and in turn get rowdy with all the merry-making activities of the season.

It would of course be a lot better if I were back home, for I’ll sure be getting more kicks to get oh-so jolly for the holidays. I sure missed home and my family whom I prepare the gift-giving practice with, as well as my friends whom I pig out and practically share the lovely season with. But hey, stop the longing. Fact of the matter is, I am in another place, and I ought to do the merry-making in my own independently creative way.

Bakit Bebot?

A colleague came up to me in the morning and handed me a sheet with a printed message on it. It read:

Magandang umaga
Hi, ------
Let me introduce myself.
I'm -----
I saw you on TYBS.
You work with ---- in Global Research Team, don't you?
He's my friend.
When I first saw you, I didn’t feel you are strange.
I stayed in the Philippines for one year.
I miss all about the Philippines.
It’s my second home.
I like to listen to Philippine songs.
I like Kitchie Nadal, Rachelle Ann, MYMP, and Orange and Lemons.
But I cannot understand some Tagalog songs.
So… I have a favour to ask of you.
Would you mind translating from Tagalog into English?
I am sorry to trouble you.
But I really wanna know what it means, and I will just ask two songs.
Is it OK with you?

Search for the New Short Hairstyle

I am seriously thinking of cutting my hair short again since after just a couple of months of officially having my nape exposed with that simple bob that I had last summer, it has gone longer that fast already.

I basically have an oval-shaped face, which they say is the most versatile face shape to style, and with it I am actually considering to be a little bolder this time around with a pixie cut. I’ve always wanted to sport a short, boyish cut, but still posing that very feminine spunk.
