In Search of Korea's Justin Bieber
This kid is just oh-so charming. It's the can-make-girls-cry kind of charm. I've been going through this guy's songs over and over that I am getting scared my appetite has not yet worn down. I've been stoked to a number of songs before, so at the rate at which I have so far gone with Justin Bieber's "Baby", I should have freakin' stopped. It then made me wonder if Korea has created the Justin Bieber kind of package in its music industry? He should do just fine in letting me join the whole Korean pop fiasco. Haha.
Rain is definitely out because I want the teeny-bopper get-up of Justin. I prefer Rain without his shirts on so there's no way I'd get to check on the kid's cool polo shirts on him. Hahaha. That Nichkhun guy from the Korean boy group, 2PM would have done it except that he's part of a big group. I want a soloist's charm.
It is what I actually find a bit bizaare with Korea's boy/girl groups-- they seem to always want to build a cheerleading squad and execute dances instead of singing songs. Korea's singing groups range from 5-10 members, which I think is too many. I mean, people usually form groups in singing so they can texturize a song with some blending or create a general harmony with the voices combined. Yet most Korean singing groups that I get to watch-- their members usually just take turns in singing. And well, I just don't seem to buy it. But then they do these outrageous dance choreographies and spit-your-heart-out-with-envy fashion statements. Oh well, that's why it is the SHOW BUSINESS and these groups are selling the package well to others. I may have liked it had I been in my teen highschool years. On second thought, maybe I am just plain boring and will simply not like any song that I don't understand, even if it is covered up with cute and jolly choreographs.
Anyway, since I know nothing much about Korean music artists, I'd appreciate any diversion to Korean charm this time around. Or maybe teach me how to appreciate them first.
